HanDBase Installation

Palm OS

  • First, make sure you have the appropriate space available on your handheld. The space required for the program itself is approximately 475K. The databases you install or create will take up additional space as well. To see if you have enough memory, access the Applications menu on your Palm OS powered handheld and then access the Menu. Select Info from the App menu. Then, if not highlighted, select the Size button at the bottom. At the top of your screen it will indicate the Total amount of memory and how much is available. If you do not have at least the appropriate amount free, you will either have to choose to delete apps, or choose to not install this program until you have that amount of free memory.

Windows

  • The HanDBase application will be automatically installed when you run the desktop installation program that you download from the DDH Software website or that you have been provided on CD.
  • During the installation process you will be prompted to select the handheld user you would like to install the application to. If you have more than one handheld user be sure to select the correct one.
  • If you have a problem with the installation you can attempt to re-install just the handheld application by selecting the "Re-install HanDBase to Pocket PC" option from the HanDBase 3.0 folder on your Start Menu under Programs/All Programs.

Macintosh

  • From the Instant Palm Desktop menu, choose HotSync Manager. The HotSync Manager screen appears.
  • From the HotSync menu, choose Install. A dialog box appears, showing all the software you've scheduled for installation. Use the pop-up menu at the top of the screen to specify which handheld you want to install onto (if you use more than one with this Macintosh).
  • Drag-and-drop method: Click the Desktop. Locate the HANDBASE3.PRC file, depending on the version you have, and simply drag the icon into the Install Handheld Files window.
  • Dialog box method: Click Add to List. You're shown the usual Macintosh Open File dialog box. Find the HANDBASE3.PRC file, depending on the version you have, then double-click.
  • When you're finished choosing files to install, close the window and quit HotSync Manager.

Pocket PC

  • First, make sure you have the appropriate space available on your handheld. The space required for the program itself is approximately 800K. The databases you install or create will take up additional space as well. A portion of the memory (RAM) available on your Pocket PC is allocated for storage and a portion for the running of programs. The storage memory is used to store the programs that you install on your Pocket PC, such as HanDBase 3.0 for the Pocket PC, and also the databases that you install or create in HanDBase. To see if you have enough memory, select the Start Menu on your handheld and select the Settings option. On the Setting screen is a System tab, select that and then select the Memory item from that list. You will need to make sure the "Storage" memory is sufficient to install this software. If you do not have at least the appropriate amount free, you will either have to choose to delete apps, or choose to not install this program until you have that amount of free memory.
  • The HanDBase application for your Pocket PC will be installed during the installation process for the software you download. During this process you will need to select your user name from the list. If you device is connected at that time the application will be installed immediately. If your device is not connected then you will be notified that the next time you connect your device that it will be installed.
  • If you have a problem with the installation you can attempt to re-install just the handheld application by selecting the "Reinstall HanDBase to Pocket PC" option from the HanDBase 3.0 folder on your Start Menu under Programs/All Programs.
